Kim Dae-jung, Superintendent of Education for Jeonnam and Gwangju, Visits Meister High Schools… "Actively Supports Cultivating Talent for High-tech Industries"

On-site Meetings Held at Gwangju Software and Gwangju Automation Equipment Meister High Schools - System Reorganization to Strengthen Vocational Education Linked to Regional Strategic Industries in Line with Creation of an 800 Trillion Won Semiconductor Ecosystem

(Break News Jeonnam Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Kim Dae-jung, Superintendent of Education for the Jeonnam and Gwangju Metropolitan City, has embarked on on-site activities to foster talent for high-tech industries by visiting local Meister High Schools in succession.

The Office of Education for the Jeonnam and Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that Superintendent Kim Dae-jung visited Gwangju Software Meister High School and Gwangju Automation Equipment Meister High School on the 6th and held on-site meetings with students, faculty, and parents.

This visit was arranged as part of efforts to gather on-site opinions and explore support measures to cultivate local vocational high schools into core bases for training talent for high-tech industries, following the recent full-scale establishment of an 800 trillion won semiconductor industry ecosystem in the Jeonnam and Gwangju regions. Superintendent Kim first visited Gwangju Software Meister High School to receive a report on the school's current status and curriculum operations, followed by a meeting. He then observed a demonstration of mobile robotics practice by students in the advanced major club and offered words of encouragement.

Gwangju Software Meister High School, which fosters specialized talent in the fields of software, artificial intelligence (AI), and smart IoT, is achieving significant results by placing a large number of graduates in major public institutions—such as Samsung Electronics Global Technology Center, the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), and the Korea Railroad Corporation—as well as in the financial sector and IT companies.

Next, he visited Gwangju Automation Equipment Meister High School, the city's first Meister High School, where he observed a collaborative robot class and closely examined the educational sites in the fields of automation equipment, electrical and electronic control, and smart factories.

Gwangju Automation Equipment Meister High School is drawing attention for its high employment rate and success in acquiring competency-based Industrial Engineer qualifications. Last year (2025), the employment rate for graduates was recorded at 75.4%, and over the past five years, 143 graduates have been placed in public corporations and as civil servants, while 113 have been placed in large conglomerates. This year, the school continues to bear fruit from its field-oriented vocational education, with a significant number of third-year students already having secured employment at companies such as Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), KEPCO Nuclear Fuel, Samsung, and HD Hyundai Samho.

At a meeting, Superintendent Kim Dae-jung emphasized, "Competencies in software, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, robotics, and automation equipment are core technologies that will lead our region's high-tech industries in the future." He added, "We will spare no support to ensure that Meister High School students can secure employment at local companies based on the valuable skills they have acquired at school, and furthermore, settle stably in the region and grow."

Meanwhile, the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Metropolitan Office of Education plans to fully implement a restructuring of the vocational education system linked to regional strategic industries such as semiconductors, AI, and smart factories. We plan to further strengthen the advancement of the curriculum, improvement of practical training environments, and employment linkage support so that vocational high school students can acquire practical competitiveness in the industrial field.
