(The Cinema That Never Was)’는 수상 이후 전 세계 18개 영화제에서 추가 수상하는 등 글로벌 영화계의 큰 이목을 집중시킨 바 있다.

Gyeonggi Province announced that it will host the ‘2026 Korea AI Content Awards’ to promote the creation of video content utilizing generative artificial intelligence (AI) and is accepting submissions until July 12.
Scheduled to be held for two days from October 15 to 16 at Lotte Cinema Suwon (Suwon Station), this competition targets film and video content utilizing generative AI technology and will be divided into three categories: Mid-length Film Competition, Short Film Competition, and the Nam June Paik Special Award.
For the Mid-length Film Competition, entries must be between 30 and 60 minutes in length, while for the Short Film Competition, entries must be less than 30 minutes. There are no genre restrictions for submissions. In particular, the newly established Nam June Paik Special Award category is drawing attention for inviting submissions of works that reinterpret the artistic world of world-renowned video artist Nam June Paik through AI-based creative methods, with no restrictions on length.
Through the judging process, a total of 18 finalists and 9 winners will be selected in the medium-length and short-length competition categories, while 2 winners will be selected in the Nam June Paik Special Award category. The total prize money amounts to approximately 70 million KRW. The finalists are scheduled to be officially unveiled to the public through a two-week cinema screening and awards ceremony taking place this coming October.
This competition strictly applies the AI transparency disclosure standards in accordance with the "Framework Act on Artificial Intelligence." Accordingly, all entries must indicate the fact of AI generation by applying at least one of the designated methods, such as inserting a logo or watermark within the video, displaying start and end subtitles, or using metadata-based invisible watermarks.
Launched in 2024 under the name "Korea AI International Film Festival," this competition has been held under its current name since 2025. In the inaugural year, 2024, "Mateo" from Mateo AI Studio, a leader in AI film studios, won the Grand Prize. The 2025 Grand Prize winner, "The Cinema That Never Was," garnered significant attention from the global film industry, winning additional awards at 18 film festivals worldwide following its initial win.
Kang Ji-sook, Head of the Content Industry Division at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "As AI technology rapidly transforms the creative environment, we hope this awards ceremony will serve as an opportunity to highlight creators' experimental endeavors and new cinematic grammars," adding, "We look forward to the interest and participation of domestic and international AI content creators."
