For the first time ever, SK hynix has surpassed Samsung Electronics to take the top spot in the rankings of stock wealth among non-owner executives. This is interpreted as the result of SK hynix’s steep stock price rise, driven by the artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor boom, which has rapidly boosted the asset size of its executives.
According to an analysis released on May 14 by the corporate analysis firm Korea CXO Institute, the stock valuation of SK hynix President Kwak Noh-jung was calculated at 28,280,510,000 won as of the 13th. This figure surpasses the 27,900,000,000 won stock valuation of the previous No. 1, Samsung Electronics President Roh Tae-moon, by approximately 300 million won. President Kwak currently holds 14,312 shares of SK hynix, and the calculation is based on the closing price of 1,976,000 won on the 13th.
Until now, the top ranks of non-owner executive stock wealth in the domestic semiconductor industry had been dominated by Samsung Electronics’ management. However, a reversal in the rankings occurred as SK hynix’s stock price recently skyrocketed. President Kwak’s stock valuation was around 2,942,700,000 won last October, but it surged by more than 25.3 billion won in just over six months. In terms of growth rate, this is a staggering record of 861%. President Kwak is also the first non-owner executive within SK hynix to enter the era of 20 billion won in stock wealth.
Meanwhile, President Roh Tae-moon, who ranked first in the October survey last year, has slipped one spot to second place. President Roh’s stock value also increased by more than 22.9 billion won during the same period, showing a high growth rate of 459%, but it could not match President Kwak’s momentum. This survey was conducted on 1,207 registered and unregistered executives listed in the regular reports of both companies, and the values were calculated by multiplying the number of shares held by each executive by the closing price of common stock on May 13.
The number of executives holding stock assets worth 1 billion won or more is also rising sharply due to the recovery of the semiconductor market and stock price increases. Among the executives surveyed, the number of non-owner executives with a stock valuation exceeding 1 billion won totaled 258, accounting for 21.4% of the total. This means that roughly one in five executives has joined the ranks of those with assets in the billion-won range. This figure is an over eight-fold surge compared to 31 executives in October of last year, and it also represents an addition of 85 members in just one month compared to the 173 recorded in the April survey.
The number of ‘super-rich’ executives who have surpassed 10 billion won in stock wealth has also increased to five. In addition to President Kwak Noh-jung and President Roh Tae-moon, the list includes Samsung Electronics President Park Hark-kyu (17.1 billion won), SK hynix President Ahn Hyun (16.4 billion won), and SK hynix President Cha Seon-yong (13.5 billion won). By company, the count was 170 executives from Samsung Electronics and 88 from SK hynix, demonstrating a broad expansion in asset size.
Oh Il-sun, Director of the Korea CXO Institute, recalled, “Just over 10 years ago, there were no non-owner executives at SK hynix with stock assets exceeding 1 billion won.” He added, “This reversal in the rankings is a symbolic moment that shows the dramatic growth SK hynix has achieved in the stock market.”
