SK bioscience’s new building, the ‘Global R&PD Center’, has obtained an eco-friendly building certification.
SK bioscience announced on April 30 that its ‘Global R&PD Center’, located in Songdo, Incheon, has earned a Gold rating in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED is a certification system that comprehensively evaluates a building’s overall sustainability, including energy efficiency, water conservation, resource circulation, indoor environment, and site location, and is the most widely used green building standard in the world.
SK bioscience was highly praised for reducing energy consumption by introducing high-efficiency facilities and for reflecting a design that considers water conservation and resource utilization. Additionally, the spatial design, which considered both the indoor environment and research efficiency to improve the productivity and working conditions of research personnel, also led to a positive evaluation.
The Songdo Global R&PD Center is an integrated research hub that connects research and development (R&D), process development (PD), and quality analysis functions into one. It was designed to allow the entire process, from the research stage to process establishment and technology transfer, to be carried out in a single space.
Following its Andong plant ‘L HOUSE’, which obtained LEED certification in 2013, SK bioscience has now secured eco-friendly certification for all of its business sites, including the Global R&PD Center, which houses its headquarters and research institute.
Ahn Jae-yong, CEO of SK bioscience, said, “The Songdo Global R&PD Center is a core hub for developing innovative technologies in the vaccine and bio sectors, as well as a research infrastructure that reflects our management philosophy oriented toward sustainable growth. We will continue to enhance our global-level eco-friendly competitiveness by applying an ESG perspective to the entire R&D process going forward.”
