Shinsegae Group Chairman Chung Yong-jin greeted Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of U.S. President Donald Trump, at a concert by his wife, flutist Han Jee-hee, in Seoul.
Chung arrived at Lotte Concert Hall in Jamsil, southern Seoul at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to attend a concert marking the release of Han’s debut album.
About an hour later, Chung went to greet Trump Jr., who arrived holding hands with his partner, Bettina Anderson.
Chung shook hands with the two and embraced them with a smile in a sign of their close ties, sources said.
At the venue, Trump Jr. signed and returned a red cap bearing “Trump” and “MAGA,” a reference to the “Make America Great Again” slogan associated with President Trump, after receiving it from an audience member.
Also in attendance were Chung’s younger sister, Chung Yoo-kyung, chairwoman of Shinsegae Inc., and her husband, Moon Sung-wook, chief executive of Shinsegae Live Shopping Inc.
Other attendees included Paik Jong-won, chief executive of The Born Korea Co. and a known associate of Chung, along with several celebrities. Chung greeted acquaintances before entering the concert hall.
Chung is known to have close ties with Trump Jr., and the two are reported to maintain a relationship that includes business cooperation.
In December last year, Chung met Trump Jr. at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, along with executives from 1789 Capital LLC, an investment firm in which Trump Jr. is involved, and Misha Laskin, founder of Reflection AI Inc.
Shinsegae Group signed a strategic partnership agreement with Reflection AI last month and announced plans to build what it described as Korea’s largest AI data center.
