Voting on the tentative wage agreement between Samsung Electronics Co. and its labor unions reached an 87 percent turnout on the fourth day of voting on Monday, while opposition from another union has emerged as a potential variable that could affect the outcome.

According to a report by Yonhap News Agency, as of 5:10 p.m. on Monday, 50,453 out of 57,301 eligible voters participated in the vote held by the South Korean chipmaker’s largest labor union, the Samsung Electronics branch of Samsung Group’s umbrella labor union, resulting in a turnout rate of 88.1 percent.

In voting at the National Samsung Electronics Labor Union, the company’s second-largest union, in the meantime, 6,801 out of 8,187 members cast their ballots for a turnout rate of 83.1 percent as of the same hour.

The combined turnout rate of the two unions stood at 87.4 percent.

The voting began at 2:12 p.m. on Friday and will continue until 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

The tentative agreement will be finalized if more than half of eligible voters participate and a majority vote in favor, according to the report.

Amid divided opinions within the company over the agreement, a movement to reject the proposal has been emerging mainly among employees in the Device eXperience (DX) division, which oversees smartphones, home appliances, and TVs.

Samsung Electronics Labor Union Donghaeng, the company’s third-largest labor union composed mainly of employees in the DX division, plans to submit an injunction request to the Suwon District Court on Tuesday, seeking to halt the vote on the tentative agreement.

Donghaeng Union claims that the largest union excluded it from the vote out of fear that DX division employees would unite against the agreement.

The union is demanding voting rights as well so that the opinions of DX employees can be reflected.

Its membership is reportedly believed to have increased from around 2,600 members to more than 13,000.

Earlier, Donghaeng Union had formed a joint struggle headquarters with the largest and second-largest unions to conduct negotiations with management.

However, it withdrew from the joint headquarters, claiming that the opinions of DX division employees were not being reflected.

The largest union now maintains that Donghaeng Union no longer has the authority to participate in the vote because it withdrew from the joint headquarters.

Meanwhile, the tentative 2026 wage deal reached between Samsung Electronics’ management and labor features the establishment of a special semiconductor management performance bonus funded by 10.5 percent of operating profit and an average wage increase of 6.2 percent (4.1 percent base salary increase and 2.1 percent performance-based increase).

According to the tentative agreement, employees in the Device Solutions (DS) division, which covers the semiconductor business, could receive performance bonuses ranging from approximately 210 million won ($138,406) to 600 million won before taxes, based on an annual salary of 100 million won.

In contrast, employees in the DX division are likely to receive only company shares worth around 6 million won as performance bonuses.
