Samsung Display and LG Display showcased next-generation organic light-emitting diode technologies at the world’s largest display exhibition in Los Angeles, highlighting advances in brightness, efficiency and new applications including health monitoring and robotics.
The two Korean companies are participating in “Display Week 2026,” hosted by the Society for Information Display, which runs from May 5 through 7 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Samsung Display introduced its latest smartphone OLED technology, dubbed “Flex Chroma Pixel,” capable of reaching peak brightness of 3,000 nits and covering 96 percent of the BT.2020 color gamut. The company said this significantly exceeds the roughly 70 percent range typically achieved by commercial smartphone displays.
Samsung Display also unveiled a 6.8-inch sensor OLED panel with 500 pixels per inch, up 33 percent from last year’s 374 PPI model. The panel integrates organic photodiodes, enabling it to measure blood flow using emitted light and monitor health indicators such as heart rate and blood pressure. Combined with Samsung’s proprietary “Flex Magic Pixel” technology, it also enhances protection of sensitive biometric data.
“Samsung Display will continue to lead innovation through sustained R&D and serve as a technological compass for customers and the market,” said Lee Chang-hee, chief technology officer of the company.

LG Display, meanwhile, presented its third-generation tandem OLED technology for the first time, reducing power consumption by 18 percent while more than doubling lifespan compared to previous generations.
Tandem OLED stacks multiple emissive layers to improve brightness and durability while lowering energy use. The new generation, introduced three years after its predecessor, is designed for automotive applications, offering 1,200 nits of brightness and durability exceeding 15,000 hours. Mass production is scheduled to begin this year.
The company also highlighted OLED applications in physical AI, including a plastic OLED panel for humanoid robots unveiled to the public for the first time. The flexible design allows for customization across different robot form factors.
In addition, LG Display showcased a 57-inch pillar-to-pillar automotive display optimized for software-defined vehicles, spanning from the driver’s seat to the passenger side in a concept car format.
“We have led OLED innovation with unmatched R&D capabilities,” said Choi Young-seok, chief technology officer of LG Display. “We will continue to strengthen our technological leadership and prioritize customer value.”
