Police have disclosed the identity of the suspect accused of stabbing a high school girl to death in Gwangju. He's 23-year-old Jang Yun-ki.

Police referred Jang to prosecutors today on charges including murder and attempted murder.

[REPORT]

This is Jang Yun-ki, the man who brutally killed a high school girl walking home.

Police released his personal information, including his face, name, and age on Thursday morning.

A five-day grace period followed the disclosure decision by the personal information disclosure review committee.

The committee earlier said the brutality of the crime, the seriousness of the harm and the views of the victim’s family met the requirements for disclosure.

Jang is accused of fatally stabbing a high school girl walking home in Gwangju around midnight on May 5th, and seriously injuring a male high school student who ran over after hearing her screams.

Jang denied planning the crime in advance when he appeared for a pretrial detention hearing.

But police believe it was likely a planned crime, not an impulsive act.

Police also found that Jang had been sued two days before the crime for stalking and sexually assaulting a foreign female co-worker. They are investigating if there is any link to the murder.

Police referred Jang to prosecutors on Thursday on charges including murder and attempted murder.
