The People Power Party leadership headed to Busan Buk-gu Gap, considered the biggest battleground in the by-elections. Senior party figures joined the leadership in a show of force, rallying behind candidate Park Min-shik.
Independent candidate Han Dong-hoon, who is also running in the district, pushed back, saying he is the right person to rebuild conservatism.

Regarding the proposal to unify conservative candidates for Busan Buk-gu Gap to ensure conservatives' overall victory in Busan, PPP leader Jang Dong-hyeok said the following, apparently targeting candidate Han Dong-hoon.
Jang Dong-hyeok / Chair, People Power Party
The conservative party must be rebuilt by Park Min-shik, who made conservatism stronger, not someone who sowed division.
Meanwhile, Ha Jung-woo of the Democratic Party and Han Dong-hoon who is now running as an independent candidate also opened their campaign offices.
Han said he will not back off and vowed to rebuild conservatism.
The PPP also stepped up its offensive on real estate policies.
It said the resumption of the heavier capital gains tax on owners of multiple homes is a 'tax bomb' that will only trigger a spike in housing prices and disrupt the housing rental market.
The main opposition party urged the government to withdraw excessive taxation and instead ease real estate regulations to increase housing supply.
