[News Today] DP in Chungbuk, Gangwon for campaigning

On the second day of official campaigning for the June 3 local elections, the Democratic Party leadership is heading to Chungcheongbuk-do and Gangwon-do to court voters. The party is also keeping up pressure on People Power Party Seoul mayoral candidate Oh Se-hoon. It will hold the first meeting of its task force on allegations that missing rebar in the GTX project was covered up.

On the second day of official campaigning on Friday, the ruling Democratic Party leadership began canvassing in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do Province.

They are hitting the Chungcheong area for the second day in a bid to win over swing voters.

In the afternoon, the leadership headed to Gangwon to meet up with the province's gubernatorial candidate Woo Sang-ho as well as voters along the east coast.

On the first day of campaigning Thursday, DP chair Jung Chung-rae stumped at nearly ten sites, calling for the eradication of insurrection and creation of competent provincial governments.

In Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do Province, where President Lee Jae Myung once served as mayor, Jung urged support for ruling party candidates who can work closely with the president.

In Chungnam, he said the ruling party promises strong support for regional development.

If it is the Democratic Party that leads legislation and budgets, then voters should elect a DP governor.

Meanwhile, DP's Seoul mayoral candidate Chong Won-o who began campaigning in Seongdong-gu District, his 'political hometown', and then in Gangnam, will attend a ceremony on Friday marking the 10th anniversary of the Guui subway station accident where he will stress the importance of safety. He will then campaign in the Gangbuk area.

The Democratic Party on Friday will hold the first meeting of its task force to look into allegations of rebar omission on the GTX rail line and continue its offensive against incumbent Seoul mayor Oh Se-hoon who is running on the People Power Party's ticket.
