LG Electronics announced on the 21st that it is accelerating the expansion of its HVAC business for AI data centers, offering total solutions in thermal management and energy optimization. The company is presenting a lineup of AI data center–focused HVAC technologies at Data Center World 2026 in Washington, D.C., running for three days from the 20th local time.
At the event, LG Electronics highlights high-performance liquid-cooling and immersion-cooling systems to manage heat loads from AI servers packed with CPUs and GPUs. Its latest coolant distribution unit uses a direct-to-chip cold plate design and doubles cooling capacity from 650 kilowatts to 1.4 megawatts. Virtual sensor and inverter pump technologies help maintain stable operation and reduce power use. The company is also unveiling immersion tanks co-developed with U.S. specialist GRC, along with a dedicated coolant developed with SK Enmove, as it broadens its cooling portfolio.
LG Electronics also emphasizes its strengths in air cooling, which precisely controls temperature and humidity in data center server rooms. Building on more than a decade of supplying solutions worldwide, it has expanded from water-cooled chillers to air-cooled free-cooling chillers that adjust operation based on indoor conditions using high-efficiency inverter compressors. These systems improve efficiency where cooling accounts for a significant share of power demand.
The HVAC lineup is supported by LG’s in-house “Core Tech” components, including magnetic and gas-foil compressors, computer room air handlers, and EC fans. The company also offers a Data Center Cooling Management system that remotely monitors CDUs, CRAHs, and chillers, analyzes operating data, and applies optimal control to detect anomalies early and help prevent server shutdowns. These hardware and software capabilities form a single integrated platform for AI data center cooling and operations.
LG Electronics is strengthening its software and power infrastructure solutions to improve energy efficiency. It is introducing an energy management platform developed with cleantech startup PADO, spun off from LG NOVA, which monitors cooling and power systems in real time to identify waste and redistribute energy where needed. The company is also showing a DC grid solution co-developed with LG Energy Solution, LS Electric, and LS Cable that reduces energy loss by minimizing AC-DC conversion steps, cutting initial power loss from around 25 percent to about 15 percent.
Jae-sung Lee, head of the ES Business Division at LG Electronics, said the company plans to keep expanding business opportunities in the AI data center HVAC market by leveraging its total solution capabilities and differentiated technologies from thermal management to energy efficiency.
