LG Electronics is ramping up recruitment efforts as it seeks to internally develop actuator technology, a key component used to control robot joint movement.
The hiring push comes as the South Korean electronics giant expands beyond home appliances into robotics, following Vice Chairman Lyu Jae-cheol’s recent call for the company to become a “top-tier electronics company” during his first town hall meeting with employees on May 7.
According to industry sources on Wednesday, LG Electronics has recently been recruiting engineers specializing in actuators and reducers for industrial, commercial and humanoid robots.
The company is seeking candidates with at least three years of experience in areas including industrial and collaborative robot drive module development and integrated motor-reducer structure design.
LG Electronics is also hiring researchers and developers with master’s and doctoral degrees to strengthen its in-house reducer technology capabilities, which are considered critical for actuator performance.
Actuators are integrated modules consisting of motors that generate rotational force, drivers that control electrical signals and reducers that regulate speed and torque. They serve as essential robotic joint components.
Reducers play a key role by converting the high-speed rotational energy generated by motors into slower, stronger and more precise movement. Advanced reducer technology is particularly important in robotics because robots often require highly accurate and powerful motion control.
While LG Electronics has already secured technological expertise in motors and drivers, the company has largely relied on outside partnerships for reducer development.
