KT announced on May 11 that it will pursue a direct Power Purchase Agreement (hereinafter referred to as a direct PPA) for renewable energy with Tokyo Electron Korea.

On this day, the two companies held a signing ceremony attended by key officials. KT will supply renewable energy to Tokyo Electron Korea’s major business sites going forward.

In September 2024, KT was approved by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for the status of a ‘Renewable Energy Electricity Supplier’ under the Electric Utility Act. A ‘Renewable Energy Electricity Supplier’ refers to a business operator that procures electricity produced from renewable sources such as solar and wind power from generation companies and sells it directly to electricity users, such as corporations, without going through the electricity market.

Tokyo Electron is a world-leading semiconductor manufacturing equipment company with major business sites and R&D centers in Hwaseong, Yongin, and Seongnam. Starting in September, KT plans to supply renewable energy to major business sites of Tokyo Electron Korea, including its Hwaseong office and its semiconductor manufacturing process research and development (R&D) center.

Kim Yong-nam, Head of the Corporate Business Division at KT’s Enterprise Business Group, stated, “KT will become a leading company in the carbon neutrality platform, contributing to domestic companies’ use of renewable energy and the realization of RE100.”

Lee Sun-gil, Head of the Technology Division at Tokyo Electron Korea, said, “Based on a stable eco-friendly energy infrastructure, we will meet our clients’ demands for greenhouse gas reduction and contribute to the sustainable growth of the domestic semiconductor ecosystem.”
