Korean non‑ferrous metals group added to S&P Global’s best‑in‑class ESG benchmark
Index and rating upgrades highlight progress in recycling and carbon reduction
Korea Zinc has been included in the Dow Jones Best‑in‑Class (DJBIC) Asia Pacific Index, becoming the first Korean non‑ferrous metals producer to join the regional ESG benchmark. The company said the move places its environmental, social, and governance performance in the top tier of large listed firms in the Asia‑Pacific market.
DJBIC is S&P Global’s revamped ESG index family, replacing the previous Dow Jones Sustainability Indices. It selects constituents based on annual assessments across environment, social, and governance categories. For the Asia Pacific Index, S&P Global screens the 600 largest companies in the region by market capitalization and includes only the top 20 percent by ESG score. Korea Zinc qualified after its 2025 evaluation and outperformed the industry average in all three pillars.
Korea Zinc has retained its place in the DJBIC Korea Index for a fourth straight year. This index covers the top 30 percent of Korean blue chips by ESG rating. The company expects continued inclusion to support its standing with global investors and to provide a recognized reference for responsible investment mandates.
Korea Zinc has obtained third-party verification that its silver and copper are produced using 100 percent recycled feedstock. It has also secured validation of product carbon footprints for major products, including zinc, lead, gold, silver, copper, and semiconductor-grade sulfuric acid. In April, MSCI raised the company’s overall ESG rating to A, reflecting progress in resource recycling, emissions reduction, and supply-chain management.
