Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) will join hands with Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC), a U.S. company specializing in nuclear power plant operations, to strengthen its nuclear engineering capabilities.
KHNP said it signed a memorandum of understanding with SNC at its Gyeongju headquarters on May 12 for cooperation in the field of nuclear engineering. The agreement was prepared to establish a cooperative framework covering nuclear power plant operation, facility maintenance, equipment reliability, and engineering overall.
Under the agreement, the two sides plan to strengthen their partnership going forward by operating technology exchange programs and sharing workshops and best practices, with the aim of enhancing practical engineering capabilities and improving operational performance.
In particular, KHNP plans to use this cooperation to further advance the equipment reliability-centered operating system it has been pursuing since its transition to an “engineering system” in December 2023.
Kim Young-seung, head of KHNP’s Engineering Division, said, “This agreement is expected to serve as an opportunity for KHNP engineers to expand their horizons globally and as a growth opportunity for the domestic engineering system to make a leap forward,” adding, “We will continue to do our utmost to complete the Korean-style engineering system through close cooperation with overseas operators and international organizations.”
