The multinational study, conducted across five Asian countries -- Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore -- is evaluating the efficacy and safety of epaminurad compared with febuxostat, an existing therapy.
Following completion of dosing, the company will proceed with follow-up observation and data analysis, with top-line results expected by the end of the year.
Epaminurad is a uricosuric agent that selectively inhibits hURAT1 (human uric acid transporter-1) and is being developed as an oral treatment for hyperuricemia and gout.
JW Pharmaceutical began the phase 3 trial in 2022 after receiving Investigational New Drug approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
“With dosing complete, we are now focusing on follow-up monitoring and data analysis,” a company official said. “We aim to deliver results by year-end and develop epaminurad as a new treatment option for gout.”
