Hyundai Motor unveiled the ‘IONIQ V’ for the first time in the world at the ‘Auto China 2026’ (2026 Beijing International Motor Show), held at the China International Exhibition Center, Shunyi Hall, on April 24.
The IONIQ V is the production version of the ‘VENUS Concept’ concept car, which was unveiled on the 10th. It is the IONIQ brand’s first strategic model for China, featuring product characteristics optimized for the lifestyles of Chinese customers. Based on Hyundai Motor’s electrification technology and expertise, the IONIQ V offers a luxurious and quiet driving experience and excellent product value. Through technological collaboration with local companies, it is equipped with a platform and battery optimized for the local market.
On this day, Hyundai Motor also presented a comprehensive strategy for the Chinese market, including continuous investment, development of locally customized products, and strengthening cooperation with partner companies.
Last year, Hyundai Motor jointly invested 8 billion yuan (approximately 1.55 trillion won) in Beijing Hyundai with its joint venture partner, Beijing Automotive Group. Based on this investment, the company will begin establishing a system to actively leverage China’s innovative industrial ecosystem.
First, with the goal of achieving 500,000 annual sales for Beijing Hyundai, the company will significantly expand its product lineup by introducing 20 new models to the Chinese market over the next five years. Furthermore, through innovations in EV sales and services and by strengthening cooperation with local technology partners, the company plans to establish China as a core sales market and a central hub for securing long-term global competitiveness.
José Muñoz, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, stated, “From the large-scale investment in Beijing Hyundai, the launch of 20 new models over the next five years, the official launch of the IONIQ brand in China, and the unveiling of the IONIQ V, Hyundai Motor is writing the most powerful, most ambitious, and most anticipated new chapter in the Chinese market.” He added, “Based on our ‘In China, For China, To Global’ strategy, we will define the future of mobility together in China.”
