South Korea’s auto giant Hyundai Motor Group has joined hands with Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Vietnamese government to train local automotive technical talent in Vietnam.

Hyundai Motor Group said on Friday that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with KOICA and Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training on Thursday, local time, in Hanoi, to foster technical personnel in Vietnam’s automotive sector.

Under the MOU, Hyundai Motor Group will be responsible for designing education curricula that reflect industrial demand.

The goal is to cultivate job-ready talent through hands-on training in fields such as mold-making, forming, and welding.

KOICA will oversee project planning and the operation of technical training programs, while the Vietnamese ministry will support implementation through its affiliated vocational training institutions.

The training program is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year, targeting young Vietnamese individuals who wish to receive technical education in the automotive field. The program will run through 2031.

Graduates will also be provided with opportunities to find employment at automotive parts-related companies.

Hyundai Motor Group expects the program to expand practical employment pathways for Vietnamese youth and serve as a foundation for securing talent for Korean small and medium-sized automotive parts companies operating in Vietnam.

“We will provide educational opportunities to Vietnamese students and create a virtuous cycle that strengthens their career pathways into the automotive industry,” said Sung Kim, president for strategic planning at Hyundai Motor Group.

Hyundai Motor Group currently operates a local joint venture plant in Vietnam, Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam auto Manufacturing Corp.

Last year, Hyundai Motor Group sold a total of 80,251 vehicles in the local market, ranking second in sales after local manufacturer VinFast Auto Ltd.

This growth momentum has continued into this year, with 20,155 units sold through March, up 13.4 percent from the same period last year.

The conglomerate is also carrying out corporate social responsibility activities in Vietnam, including Hyundai Jump School Vietnam, aimed at narrowing educational gaps among youth, and Ioniq Forest, a mangrove forest restoration project.
