The European Union Delegation to South Korea hosted this year's Europe Day reception at the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul on Friday evening, featuring exhibition booths from 25 member states and corporate partners showcasing diverse European food, beverages and cultures.

During the ceremony, EU Ambassador Ugo Astuto emphasized that North Korea’s military support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine — now entering its fifth year — makes it “graphically evident that security and prosperity in Europe and the Indo-Pacific are directly interrelated.” Highlighting the shared economic vulnerabilities of the two partners, Astuto noted that the crisis in Hormuz further underscores the need for cooperation among like-minded democracies to withstand external shocks to energy prices and supply chains.

Europe Day commemorates the 1950 Schuman Declaration, the proposal that served as the foundational step toward the creation of the modern European Union.
