BIOFT Secures Patent for Lactobacillus-Derived Exosome Composition Techno...

BIOFT Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as BIOFT) announced that it has secured a composition technology patent enabling the high-efficiency and high-stability recovery of exosomes derived from Lactobacillus. This newly acquired patent overcomes the limitations of conventional exosome manufacturing processes and significantly expands the potential for industrial application as cosmetic ingredients.

The key strength of this technology lies in its process design, which allows exosome recovery using only low-speed centrifugation—eliminating the need for expensive and complex equipment such as ultracentrifugation. This innovation dramatically simplifies the manufacturing process while establishing a foundation for scalable mass production and commercialization. In particular, it offers strong industrial competitiveness by achieving both cost reduction and high process reproducibility.

In addition, the technology applies an electrostatic interaction-based mechanism that maintains the structural integrity of the exosome lipid bilayer. By minimizing physical stress during processing, it preserves both the native structure and physiological functions of exosomes, enabling the production of “functional exosomes” with retained bioactivity.

Unlike conventional exosome production methods that heavily rely on equipment such as ultracentrifugation or tangential flow filtration (TFF), BIOFT’s patented composition technology adopts a purification process based on intentional exosome aggregation and charge-driven adsorption mechanisms. This approach ensures that exosomes are recovered without damaging their lipid bilayer structure, making it highly advantageous for large-scale production and industrialization.

Notably, BIOFT stated that this patented technology also enables the development of differentiated exosome-based ingredients by combining exosomes derived from two different strains—rather than a single strain—at optimized ratios, thereby maximizing skin efficacy.

In fact, skin permeation tests conducted using Lactobacillus-derived exosomes purified with this patented technology showed that, compared to a control group, skin absorption increased by approximately 5.3 times, while the rate of absorption improved by about 6.3 times—demonstrating outstanding performance in transdermal delivery efficiency.

A BIOFT representative commented, “The core of this composition technology patent lies in achieving a process that is suitable for industrialization while maintaining both the stability and functionality of exosomes. We expect this technology to expand beyond cosmetic ingredients into a wide range of functional material applications in the future.”
