365mc said Tuesday it has published a new book on fat-derived stem cells, as the liposuction-focused medical group seeks to highlight the potential role of adipose tissue in regenerative and anti-aging medicine.

The book, titled “Fat Stem Cells: The Secret of Youth Hidden in Belly Fat,” argues that body fat should be viewed not only as tissue to remove, but also as a potential regenerative resource because of the stem cells it contains.

The lead author is Kim Jung-eun, head physician at 365mc All New Gangnam Main Branch, with contributions from 11 co-authors including 365mc CEO Kim Nam-cheol.

According to the publisher, the book is structured in four sections and is aimed at a general audience rather than medical specialists.

The first section explains why fat has historically been viewed negatively and discusses why abdominal and thigh fat contain relatively abundant stem cells. The second section covers the growing interest in adipose-derived stem cells among adult stem cell therapies, anti-aging applications, differences between Korean and Japanese treatment systems, and stem cell-based cosmetics.

The third section focuses on clinical applications, including skin elasticity and wrinkle improvement, treatment-resistant acne, chronic fatigue, immune function, degenerative arthritis, hair loss and fat grafting procedures designed to improve engraftment rates in breast and hip augmentation.

The final section describes the process of harvesting fat through liposuction, isolating stem cells and reinjecting them. It also discusses “cell banking” as a possible strategy for future disease preparation and includes lifestyle recommendations intended to support treatment effects.

Kim Jung-eun, who also heads 365mc’s Stem Cell Center and serves as president of the Korean Society of Adipose Stem Cells, said the book grew out of concerns about the amount of fat discarded as medical waste after liposuction procedures.

“We began questioning whether extracted fat should simply be thrown away even though it may have potential value as a bioresource,” Kim said.

The book also examines broader social and ethical questions surrounding future stem cell therapies, including their possible applications in diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and cardiac regeneration, as well as concerns about biological inequality in aging societies.

Heo Chang-hoon, a dermatology professor at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH), said in a recommendation that the book presents stem cell concepts in a more accessible way than traditional medical texts.
