[브레이크뉴스=강동호 기자] 합천군이 12일 애플수박 공동선별장에서 ‘2026년 애플수박 첫 출하식’을 열고 본격적인 출하에 들어갔다.
이날 행사에는 군 관계자와 애플수박 작목반, 유통업계 관계자 등 50여 명이 참석해 안정적인 생산과 성공적인 판매를 기원했다.
애플수박은 일반 수박보다 크기가 작은 1~2kg 내외의 소형 수박으로, 껍질이 얇아 간편하게 먹을 수 있는 것이 특징이다. 당도는 10브릭스 이상으로 높아 1~2인 가구 증가와 간편 소비 트렌드에 맞물려 수요가 꾸준히 늘고 있다.
합천군은 지난 2017년부터 애플수박 재배를 시작했으며, 올해는 60개 농가가 총 18ha 규모의 시설하우스에서 생산에 참여하고 있다. 예상 생산량은 약 50만 통으로 전국 애플수박 생산량의 약 70%를 차지할 것으로 전망된다.
군은 애플수박을 지역 대표 소득작목으로 육성하기 위해 재배기술 지원과 유통망 확대에 집중하고 있다.
합천군 관계자는 “애플수박은 변화하는 소비시장에 대응할 수 있는 경쟁력 있는 농산물”이라며 “농가의 안정적인 판로 확보와 고품질 생산 지원을 지속적으로 강화해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
