Education Policies Created Directly by Students… Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Holds Workshop for 8th Student Council
Refining Agenda Items Including Life Safety Platform, AI Learning Support, and School Bus Improvements - Final Presentation Scheduled for Regular Council Meeting in December Following World Cafe-style Discussions
(Break News Jeonnam Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = A venue has been prepared where students directly identify issues in the educational field, propose solutions, and concretize them into policies.
On the 12th, the Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education held the "Workshop for the Presidency and Executives of the 8th Jeonnam Student Council" in Yeosu under the theme of "Activating Student Autonomy through Participation and Cooperation."
This workshop was designed to allow students to directly plan, implement, and reflect on education policies based on policy proposals submitted by the 8th Jeonnam Student Council. Previously, based on collected opinions, the Student Council submitted policy proposals including a Jeonnam-Gwangju student life safety platform, free support for AI learning services to bridge the AI learning gap, and improvements to bus routes and dispatch intervals for student commuting convenience.
During the workshop held on this day, students carried out practical tasks such as researching policy materials, analyzing the root causes of problems in the educational field, establishing policy hypotheses through PMI (Pros, Cons, Interests) analysis, and drafting survey questions. In particular, by applying the "World Cafe" method, where students moved between groups to freely exchange opinions, they fostered meaningful communication that enhanced the completeness of the proposals.
Starting with this workshop, the Jeonnam Student Council plans to conduct a thorough review of the policy proposals until November, after which students will personally present their final policies at the "Jeonnam Student Council Second Half Regular Council" to be held in December. Kim Gwang-sik, Head of the Democratic Life Education Division at the Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, “Students will be able to significantly enhance their capabilities as democratic citizens through the experience of identifying educational issues and formulating policies on their own,” adding, “We will continue to spare no support to ensure that students’ voices are actively reflected in actual educational policies.”
