[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 하동군이 제11차 전력수급기본계획에 따른 신규 양수발전소 유치를 위해 현장 점검과 주민 간담회를 열며 사업 추진에 속도를 내고 있다.
김현수 하동군수는 지난 9일 한국남부발전 서성재 부사장, 옥종면양수발전추진위원회, 지역 주민들과 함께 옥종면 양수발전소 예정지를 찾아 사업 추진 현황을 점검했다. 현장에서는 상·하부 예정지를 둘러보고 한국남부발전으로부터 사업 추진 계획을 보고받았다.
하동군은 옥종면 종화리와 두양리 일원에 총사업비 1조5천억 원을 투입해 700MW 규모의 양수발전소 건설을 추진하고 있다. 정부는 제11차 전력수급기본계획에 따라 2026년 하반기 신규 양수발전소 2곳을 선정할 예정이다.
이날 김 군수는 주민들과 간담회를 갖고 사업 필요성과 기대효과를 설명했다. 하동군은 사업 대상지 주민 36가구가 사업 추진에 동의한 만큼 정부 공모에서도 경쟁력을 확보할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.
군은 양수발전소가 유치될 경우 건설기간 8년과 운영기간 50년 동안 특별지원금 등을 포함해 783억 원 규모의 지역 지원 효과와 함께 인구 유입, 지역경제 활성화, 지방세수 확대 등의 효과가 있을 것으로 전망했다.
하동군은 앞으로 군민 공감대 확산을 위한 결의대회와 함께 정부와 국회 등을 대상으로 사업 필요성을 설명하는 등 유치 활동을 이어갈 계획이다.
