Competing Beyond Quality with ‘Brands’… Gangjin Agriculture Completes ‘Success Packages’ of 8 Individuals, 8 Colors
Gangjin Agricultural Technology Center Successfully Concludes ‘2026 Customized Brand Development Training for Farmers’ – Laying the Foundation for Self-Reliance with Designs Filled with Tradition and Sincerity… ‘From Simple Agricultural Products to Value Products’
(Gangjin = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Agricultural products from Gangjin, Jeollanam-do, are moving beyond the basics of ‘good quality’ and being reborn as unique ‘brands’ that linger in consumers’ hearts. Farmers who once produced simple food items are now stepping up to strengthen their market competitiveness by adopting designs that embody their own philosophies and stories.
The Gangjin Agricultural Technology Center announced that it successfully concluded the ‘2026 Customized Value Enhancement Brand Development Training for Farmers,’ held from April 6 to 22, by producing distinctive brand results for eight farms.
This training did not stop at the technical process of simply creating pretty logos or flashy packaging. The focus was on enabling farmers to define the value of their own produce, deliberate on the image they wish to project to consumers, and build "brand assets" that can be utilized in actual sales settings.
The training, conducted over six days under the guidance of No Si-woo, CEO of Siu Design School, followed a systematic two-stage process. Stage 1 involved brand naming strategies, the derivation of core concepts, and business card design, while Stage 2 extended to actual packaging design and trademark application procedures. Under the principle that "I design the products I produce myself," the trainees took their first steps toward brand independence.
At the final evaluation held on the 22nd, the brands of eight farms, each featuring different products and stories, were unveiled, drawing significant attention.
Dasan Myeongga (CEO Guk Ryeong-ae) maximized the historical significance of Gangjin by incorporating the handwritten character "食" (Sik) by Dasan Jeong Yak-yong into its logo. It is evaluated that the company has branded the "Dignity of Gangjin" by establishing an integrated design system that encompasses various items, such as jams and pickles.
Dasanaecha (CEO Park Jeom-ja) focused on practical branding that elevates quality while maximizing the use of existing resources. It added depth to the tea through refined packaging that spans both daily use and gifting.
Mangyeong Daseol (CEO Baek Young-sook) adopted the traditional manufacturing method of pounding tea cakes with a wooden mortar as its brand identity. Its strength lies in a design that intuitively conveys images of "handcrafted taste" and "tradition."
Suhyangjin (CEO Yoon Chi-yeol) redefined its existing business name, which had been used for seven years, and was reborn as the "Sincerity" brand, embodying a beekeeping philosophy. Emphasizing the trust of the producers, the company declared its leap into the premium honey market.
B-Farm School (CEO Yoon Seo-young) went beyond the sale of agricultural products to brand the public value of "on-site experiential education." It is an example that demonstrates the scalability of agriculture through educational content that raises awareness of the importance of honeybees. Ahead of its first blueberry shipment, Bomaebom (CEO Kim Kyung-seop) completed a package that captures freshness and vibrancy. The design stood out for its consideration of practical logistics systems, designed to help novice farmers establish themselves in the market.
Jinsungnong (CEO Kim Dong-hwa) aims to be a mutual growth brand that takes responsibility for the produce of village elders, embodying the meaning of a "truthful and sincere farmer." It presented economical and practical packaging alternatives suitable for small-scale farms.
Kkotpineun Gangjin (CEO Lee Kyung-cheol) targeted the online market by combining a map of Gangjin with images of roses. By capturing both regional identity and aesthetic appeal, the company focused on increasing brand awareness through mail-order sales and online malls.
The greatest takeaway from this training was the restoration of confidence among the farmers. One trainee shared their thoughts, stating, "Watching an ordinary delivery box transform into a premium package has greatly increased my pride in my produce." CEO No Si-woo remarked, “Design is not merely about decorating the exterior, but a process of visualizing the farmer’s thoughts and sincerity,” giving high marks to the results where producers have become the owners of the brands.
The Gangjin County Agricultural Technology Center plans to ensure thorough follow-up management, including the production of packaging and support for promotional materials, to ensure that the newly developed brands do not remain mere educational outcomes but lead to actual income growth.
Director Choi Young-ah emphasized, “I hope these precious brands, created directly by the farmers, will demonstrate strong competitiveness in the market,” adding, “We will spread a new culture of Gangjin agriculture that competes on branding rather than just quality.”
‘Brand Agriculture,’ which imbues names and stories into agricultural products cultivated with care by Gangjin’s farmers. Gangjin is now ready to deliver a moving experience to consumers nationwide that goes beyond mere quality.
