청주시는 31일 월명공원 에피트 온 더 파크 주민공동시설에서 관계자와 지역 주민 등 100여 명이 참석한 가운데 '월명공원 민간공원 조성사업 준공식'을 개최했다.
월명공원은 지난 1967년 도시계획시설(공원)로 지정되었으나, 막대한 토지보상비와 공원 조성 비용 확보에 어려움을 겪으며 오랫동안 장기 미집행 상태로 남아 있었다.
이에 청주시는 공원 부지 일부의 민간 개발을 허용하고, 민간사업자가 잔여 부지를 공원으로 조성해 시에 기부채납하는 민간공원 특례사업 방식을 도입해 문제를 해결했다.
이번 사업으로 청주시는 토지보상비 351억 원, 도로공사비 38억 원, 공원공사비 63억 원 등 총 452억 원 규모의 시 재정을 절감하는 동시에 도심 내 귀중한 녹지공간을 확보하는 성과를 거두었다.
새롭게 문을 연 월명공원은 총 10만 2,487㎡ 규모다. 내부에는 관리사무소와 화장실, 주차장을 비롯해 문화공연과 피크닉이 가능한 잔디광장, 야외학습장 등이 갖춰졌다.
