Jeonnam Bio Promotion Agency Holds First ‘Jeonnam-Gwangju Bio Young Salon’… Initiating Industry-Academia-Research-Hospital Cooperation

Held at Hwasun Bio-Pharmaceutical Headquarters, Combined with a Meeting for Tenant Companies… Launching a Practical Networking Platform, Sharing PaxelBio Case and Introducing Public CXO Projects… Strengthening Global Competitiveness through Quarterly Regularization

(Hwasun/Naju = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Bio-Pharmaceutical Headquarters of the Jeonnam Bio Promotion Agency held the ‘Jeonnam-Gwangju Bio Young Salon in Hwasun and Meeting for Tenant Companies’ on the 28th at the seminar room of the Hwasun Bio-Pharmaceutical Headquarters to strengthen the cooperative network of the regional bio-health industry.

This event was organized to establish a sustainable cooperative system among bio-companies, hospitals, universities, and support organizations in the Jeonnam and Gwangju regions and to revitalize exchanges between companies, in line with the designation of the Hwasun Vaccine Industry Special Zone and the National Advanced Strategic Industry Bio Specialized Complex. A large number of resident companies of the Agency and stakeholders in the bio-health sector attended, demonstrating keen interest.

The event proceeded in the following order: introduction of the operational plan for the Jeonnam-Gwangju Bio Young Salon, introduction of PaxelBio Co., Ltd., introduction of the K-Biohealth Regional Center's public CXO support program, and discussion on measures to revitalize the Vaccine Industry Special Zone and listening to the difficulties faced by resident companies.

The ‘Bio Young Salon,’ unveiled for the first time on this day, is a field-oriented networking program where working-level managers and next-generation leaders in the biohealth sector of the Jeonnam and Gwangju regions regularly gather to share industry trends and policies, and to identify practical cooperation projects such as joint R&D, technology commercialization, and investment linkages. The Agency plans to regularize this program on a quarterly basis and develop it into a comprehensive cooperation platform encompassing support for utilizing public CDMOs and resolving corporate difficulties.

In the company introduction session, PaxelBio Co., Ltd., the first KOSDAQ-listed company in the Hwasun Vaccine Industry Special Zone, presented its current R&D status and global expansion strategy. PaxelBio, which develops anticancer immunotherapies and cell therapies, shared its growth history and direction for open innovation, expressing its commitment to expanding cooperation with local companies.

The ‘K-Biohealth Regional Center Public CXO Support Project,’ introduced next, received a strong positive response from attendees as a customized support program that connects experts in various fields to address the challenges faced by startups and small and medium-sized bio companies at each stage of their growth.

During the subsequent discussion, various pending issues were discussed, including the revitalization of the Special Vaccine Industry Zone, joint responses to government grant competitions, investment attraction, and the training of specialized personnel. Participating companies deeply agreed on the need for a regular communication channel and expressed their hope that the Bio Young Salon would serve as a central hub for the regional bio industry.

Seo Dong-sam, Head of the Biopharmaceutical Division at the Jeonnam Bio Promotion Agency, emphasized, “The Bio Young Salon is not merely a gathering for exchange, but an open collaborative platform where regional bio companies, hospitals, universities, and support organizations grow together.” He added, “We will actively reflect voices from the field to strengthen the full-cycle support system—ranging from R&D to commercialization, investment attraction, and workforce training—and foster the Hwasun Bio Cluster into Korea’s leading hub for advanced bio innovation.” Meanwhile, as the lead organization for the Jeonnam and Gwangju regions under the K-Biohealth Regional Center Support Project organized by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, the Jeonnam Bio-Industry Promotion Agency is pursuing four major strategies: strengthening the regional startup and growth support system, creating a demonstration ecosystem based on clinical and medical data, strengthening cooperation networks among industry, academia, research institutes, and hospitals, and promoting entry into global markets and investment attraction. Based on this, the agency plans to continuously build an advanced biohealth ecosystem centered on vaccines and immunotherapy that is differentiated from the Seoul metropolitan area.
