Presided over by Vice Governor Hwang Ki-yeon, intensive inspection of areas closely related to residents' daily lives, such as local ordinances, civil complaint systems, and disaster management systems- With about 50 days left until launch, preparations are being accelerated through the injection of reserve funds and strengthened cooperation with Gwangju City and the local council

(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = South Jeolla Province has entered the full-scale countdown for the successful launch of the ‘Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City,’ the first metropolitan integration project in South Korea.

South Jeolla Province announced that on the 15th, it held the ‘4th Meeting to Review the Progress of Major Integration Tasks’ at the Seojaepil Room of the Provincial Office, presided over by Vice Governor Hwang Ki-yeon, and conducted a detailed review of the final preparations for administrative integration.

At the meeting, Vice Governor Hwang Ki-yeon examined in detail the preparation status of key tasks necessary for the launch of the integrated special city and the progress of each department and bureau. In particular, the meeting focused on areas that directly impact residents' daily lives, such as the revision of local ordinances, the integration of civil administration systems, and the maintenance of informational signage. Additionally, the Fire Department attended the meeting to share the status of the "Integrated Disaster Response System" established so far and discussed measures to ensure a seamless integration without any safety gaps.

Jeonnam Province plans to spare no budgetary support for high-urgency areas. It has decided to prioritize the allocation of reserve funds to urgent tasks that must be completed before this coming June. Furthermore, the province plans to ensure full readiness for administrative integration by securing necessary resources without disruption in accordance with the regular budget compilation schedule, including the supplementary budget in June and the 2026 main budget.

Vice Governor Hwang Ki-yeon emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, "There are now only about 50 days left until the launch of the integrated special city." He then strongly urged all employees, saying, “As there is limited time to enhance the completeness of the administrative integration and address any shortcomings, please further solidify the cooperative framework with Gwangju Metropolitan City, the Jeonnam Provincial Council, and the Gwangju City Council to accelerate preparations for the integration.”

Currently, Jeonnam Province is operating the ‘Jeonnam-Gwangju Policy Consultative Body’ in collaboration with Gwangju Metropolitan City, involving the deputy heads of both cities and provinces as well as their local councils. In addition, the government and the private sector are working together as a unified team to accelerate preparations for the historic launch of the integrated special city, including the establishment of the ‘Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Preparatory Committee,’ which involves private sector experts and residents.
