Jeonnam Office of Education Operates Customized ‘Visiting Career and Vocational Education’ for Students with Disabilities

Targeting 251 Special Class Students from 53 Schools in 9 Regions of the Province… Providing Customized Programs by Developmental Stage

(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Jeollanam-do Office of Education is launching the ‘Visiting Special Class Career and Vocational Education’ program to facilitate the stable social integration of students with disabilities and enhance their ability to become independent.

This program was prepared for students in special classes in regions where educational opportunities are relatively limited due to geographical conditions, and it will be conducted in two phases: the first half (April 20–May 6) and the second half (November 16–December 4).

The target audience consists of 251 students in special classes at 53 elementary, middle, and high schools across nine regions in the province, including Jangheung, Boseong, Gangjin, Haenam, Yeongam, Jindo, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, and Jangseong. The Provincial Office of Education focused on strengthening self-understanding and career exploration abilities through a systematic curriculum tailored to students' developmental stages, as well as cultivating the basic competencies required of future professionals.

Looking at the key educational contents by grade level, the elementary school curriculum utilizes "Junior Career Net" to conduct self-understanding tests, helping students discover their own personalities and strengths and form a positive self-image. The middle school curriculum fosters independent living skills through practical self-management exercises and teaches basic attitudes toward the world of work. The high school curriculum provides concrete and practical career planning opportunities by teaching how to write personal statements and participating in mock interviews to prepare for real-world situations.

An official from the Jeonnam Office of Education stated, "We hope this education serves as a valuable opportunity for students with disabilities to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and adopt a proactive attitude toward their careers," adding, "We will continue to do our utmost to ensure a successful transition into society through customized support that considers the specific characteristics of students with disabilities."
