Jeonnam Education Dream Realization Foundation Holds Pre-camp for ‘Student Public Diplomacy School 2nd Cohort’

10 Student Diplomats Trained in ODA Understanding and Local Project Planning at KOICA Global Talent Training Center in Yeongwol – Cultivating Global Citizenship and Practical Capabilities by Directly Designing Educational Volunteer and Cultural Exchange Projects in Uzbekistan

(Break News Jeonnam Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Jeonnam Education Dream Realization Foundation successfully concluded the ‘Jeonnam Student Public Diplomacy School 2nd Cohort International Development Cooperation Practice Education Pre-camp’ from July 27 to 30 at the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Global Talent Training Center in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do.

This camp was organized to help students understand the value of international development cooperation and to enable them to proactively plan educational volunteer and cultural exchange projects aimed at supporting the sustainable development of developing countries. A total of 16 participants attended the event, including 10 student diplomats and 6 members of the teacher support group and foundation management staff.

Over the course of four days and three nights, participants completed a diverse program that included global citizenship education, an understanding of international development cooperation and Official Development Assistance (ODA), sharing case studies of KOICA overseas volunteer activities, and an exploration of Uzbekistan's education, culture, and environment.

In particular, based on local needs assessments in Uzbekistan, the students personally designed practical tasks through group discussions and expert feedback. Through this process, they enhanced their sense of responsibility as global citizens, as well as their problem-solving and collaboration skills.

The Foundation has been operating this public diplomacy program since last year. Last January, students engaged in exchange activities at Public School No. 81 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, such as creating Korean names and playing traditional Korean games and crafts. They also visited the local KOICA office and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Uzbekistan to experience the vibrant field of public diplomacy firsthand. This camp is evaluated as having further systematized the student-led program, building upon the achievements of the previous year.

Lee Gil-hoon, Director of the Jeonnam Education Dream Realization Foundation, stated, “It is highly significant that students did not stop at learning knowledge but directly designed practical tasks that reflect local needs,” adding, “We will spare no support to help our students grow into glocal talents equipped with global citizenship and practical capabilities.”
