Candidate Lee Jeong-hoon’s Camp: “Candidate Choi Ki-moon Submits Rehashed Pledges from 4 Years Ago… ‘Copied Pledges’ That Mockery Citizens”

Candidate Lee Jeong-hoon’s camp has strongly criticized independent candidate Choi Ki-moon regarding his election pledges, stating that he “submitted pledges that were virtually copied verbatim from four years ago.”

In a press release on the 22nd, Candidate Lee’s camp claimed, “It has been confirmed that the five major pledges submitted by Candidate Choi to the Yeongcheon City Election Commission are virtually identical to the pledge document submitted during the local elections four years ago, not only in core content but also in project names, implementation plans, and target years.” They argued, “This constitutes ‘copied pledges’ that mock the citizens.”

They continued by pointing out, “The five major pledges submitted to the Election Commission are not mere promotional phrases, but official documents promising citizens how the city administration will be run over the next four years.” They added, “However, the fact that past schedules such as ‘July 2022 groundbreaking for Phase 1,’ ‘2023 completion target,’ and ‘2025 Phase 1 opening target’ are listed verbatim in the 2026 election pledges cannot be regarded as a simple mistake.”

Candidate Lee’s camp emphasized, “Candidate Choi is a candidate who is a former incumbent mayor responsible for the Yeongcheon city administration for the past eight years.” They continued, “As he is in a position where he should be more aware than anyone else of the current progress of projects and the changing demands of citizens, it is only right that he present a new vision and feasible pledges.”

They further criticized, “If past pledge wording was recycled even though some projects have already been completed or are in the final stages, this is nothing more than the reuse of administrative data rather than the presentation of a future vision. It is no different from an admission that he has not prepared for the next four years.”

Candidate Lee's camp demanded that Candidate Choi: ▲ explain the circumstances under which past target years were listed as they were; ▲ clarify the reasons for the pledges remaining the same as those from four years ago; ▲ clarify whether projects that are already completed or in the final stages are being re-pledged; ▲ present a new vision for municipal administration; and ▲ issue a public apology to citizens and state a responsible position.

Candidate Lee's camp urged, "Election pledges are promises to citizens and official verification documents," adding, "He must immediately apologize for submitting flawed pledges that disregarded the citizens of Yeongcheon's right to know, withdraw the pledges, and submit new ones."

On the other hand, Candidate Lee Jeong-hoon is presenting the following as his core pledges: ▲ attracting the Korea Racing Authority headquarters to Yeongcheon; ▲ establishing an integrated education and youth campus in Wansan-dong; ▲ transitioning to future industries centered on secondary batteries, robotics, and defense; ▲ a project for an economic zone with a resident population of 500,000; and ▲ expanding welfare, transportation, and basic income.

Candidate Lee's camp stated, "Yeongcheon must no longer remain stuck in politics that merely repeats past pledges," adding, "What is needed now is new political power and drive to design the Yeongcheon of tomorrow."
