Eumseong-gun Reorganizes Buried Heritage Maps for Development-Concentrated Areas Including Geumwang and Daeso

Eumseong-gun, North Chungcheong Province, has officially launched the "Buried Heritage Preservation Area Information Enhancement Project" to establish systematic preservation and management of buried heritage and efficient development administration.

Eumseong-gun announced that it held a project launch briefing at the county office's situation room, attended by experts on buried heritage, officials from the National Heritage Administration, and representatives from North Chungcheong Province.

A "Buried Heritage Preservation Area" refers to a zone with a high probability of containing buried heritage. This project is being pursued to build precise preliminary information on these areas to prevent damage to heritage caused by indiscriminate development and to establish a foundation for efficient management.

In particular, for areas where the information enhancement work has been completed, the National Heritage Impact Assessment procedure—which was previously required for future development projects exceeding a certain scale—will be omitted. Consequently, the administrative procedures and time required during the development process are expected to be significantly shortened.

The survey covers the areas of Geumwang-eup, Daeso-myeon, Maengdong-myeon, and Samseong-myeon, which have high demand for development, and covers buried heritage dating from the prehistoric era to the period prior to the Korean War. However, areas such as Innovation Cities, industrial complexes, and residential districts where surveys have already been completed are excluded from the scope.

Eumseong County plans to establish a database of heritage sites and conservation measures in collaboration with the Chungcheongbuk-do Institute of History and Culture, following the analysis of ancient maps and literature as well as detailed surface surveys. Subsequently, the project will be finalized by the first half of next year after review by an expert committee.

Upon completion of the project, anyone will be able to easily view the status of buried heritage sites through the National Heritage Spatial Information Service. Eumseong County is committed to ensuring thorough investigation and data construction to achieve harmony between the protection of buried heritage and regional development.
