Okcheon-gun Public Health Center and Okcheon-gun Family Center Operate "Welcoming Multicultural Neighbors' Health"
The Okcheon-gun Public Health Center, in collaboration with the Okcheon-gun Family Center, will operate the "Welcoming Multicultural Neighbors' Health" project until this coming November to improve access to health information and strengthen self-health management capabilities for multicultural immigrants.
Considering the characteristics of immigrants who are prone to falling into medical blind spots due to language barriers and a lack of information, this project is being implemented in two parts: health education for foreign workers and the provision of health newsletters to married immigrant women.
As part of the project, the Maternal and Child Health Team at the Public Health Center conducted customized nutrition education for 25 foreign workers at the Okcheon-gun Family Center on the 26th. The education, which lasted approximately one hour, focused on providing dietary guidelines that can be immediately applied in daily life and how to check and utilize nutrition labels. It also included one-on-one counseling to address individual questions, receiving a positive response from the participants.
Okcheon-gun Public Health Center and Okcheon-gun Family Center Operate "Welcoming Multicultural Neighbors' Health" The Public Health Center plans to strive to improve the overall health of migrants by sequentially operating smoking cessation support services and oral care education, including proper toothbrushing, as well as blood pressure and blood sugar measurements and chronic disease prevention education (early symptoms and response methods for myocardial infarction and stroke).
In addition, it is promoting the "regular provision of health information" for married migrant women. The Public Health Center will produce a monthly health information newsletter and deliver it to the Family Center, which will then translate it into various languages and distribute it to participants in Korean language classes, thereby supporting migrants in managing their own health without language barriers.
Park Seong-hee, Director of the Okcheon County Public Health Center, stated, "Through collaboration with the Family Center, we will ensure that foreign workers and married migrant women can access necessary health information more easily and accurately," adding, "We will build a comprehensive health safety net that detects potential health risk factors early and connects them to the Public Health Center's specialized services."
