Yeongdong-gun Family Center Small Library to Operate Customized Reading Programs
Recruitment for 'Reading Club' and 'Understanding Korean Culture' Programs on a First-Come, First-Served Basis
The Small Library at the Yeongdong-gun Family Center in North Chungcheong Province is launching two customized reading programs, the "Adult Reading Club" and "United by Culture," to promote reading culture and expand opportunities for cultural enjoyment among local residents.
These programs were designed to broaden residents' perspectives through reading and discussion activities, while also assisting local residents with immigrant backgrounds in understanding Korean culture and settling down stably.
First, the "Adult Reading Club," targeting 10 local adults, will run for a total of 10 sessions every Monday from June 8 to August 10, from 10:00 AM for two hours. Participants will have the opportunity to share their thoughts and build a sense of shared understanding based on various themes found in literary works. "United by Culture," a program for 10 residents with immigrant backgrounds, will run for a total of 10 sessions every Thursday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, starting June 11 and continuing until August 13. This program aims to not only help participants adapt to life in Korea through communication-focused lectures but also to practically drive their employment and social participation by supporting the improvement of Korean language proficiency and the acquisition of translator certifications.
Recruitment for both programs is on a first-come, first-served basis. The application deadlines are June 7 for the "Adult Reading Club" and June 10 for "United by Culture." Residents wishing to participate can apply through the Rainbow Yeongdong Library website.
An official from the Yeongdong Family Center expressed hope that reading would become a more integral part of local residents' lives through these programs. They noted that for residents with immigrant backgrounds in particular, this would serve as a meaningful opportunity to facilitate communication and cultural enjoyment through reading, potentially leading to job placement. Furthermore, they added that they will continue to operate various reading programs to contribute to the spread of reading culture and cultural development within the local community.
