Yeongdong Office of Education Operates '26 Neona-deuri Teacher Training Utilizing Local Resources

The Yeongdong Office of Education in North Chungcheong Province is operating the "2026 Yeongdong Onmaeul Learning Center Neona-deuri Teacher Training" to strengthen teachers' practical capabilities by linking diverse local resources with the curriculum. Under the theme "Reading the Region, Designing Lessons, and Implementing the Curriculum," this training program targets elementary, middle, and high school teachers within the district and consists of a total of six courses running until September 2nd.

In the initial courses conducted so far, inquiry activities centered on "Nangye Gugak" were carried out alongside the design of a region-linked curriculum. Teachers participating in the training visited the Yeongdong Gugak Experience Village to directly experience mutually open local programs, such as gayageum performance and mini janggu making, and explored ways to utilize them for educational purposes.

In the upcoming courses, project planning involving schools, institutions, and village experts, as well as the sharing of case studies on utilizing local resources, will be addressed in earnest. In particular, a variety of field-oriented programs have been prepared, including making dried persimmon K-desserts using Yeongdong's local specialties, dyeing crafts at Danhae Gallery, and harvesting Yeongdong grapes. In addition, valuable opportunities encompassing the region's culture, arts, ecology, and industry are provided, such as visiting the Korea Expressway Corporation Tunnel Disaster Prevention Certification Center—the only one of its kind in the country—to experience road tunnel disaster prevention safety education.

This training program was designed to help teachers directly experience the rich educational resources of the Yeongdong region and naturally apply them to actual classroom lessons and the curriculum. It is expected to serve as an opportunity to deeply understand the value of education where schools and the local community coexist through the process of sharing examples of community-based educational activities, and to implement practical, community-linked education.

An official from the Yeongdong Office of Education emphasized the existence of diverse resources within the region to enrich students' learning. They stated that they will continue to provide field-oriented training and support, including the newly introduced "Onmaeul Baeumteo" mutual opening program this year, to enable teachers to easily integrate local resources into the curriculum.
