“Wildfires Are a Matter of Human Survival”… The 11th Environmental Safety Forum and Action Awards Conclude Successfully

In the Era of Climate Crisis, Focus on ‘Environmental Impacts of Wildfires and the Survival Chain of Fire Disasters’

Goyang City Council Member Kim Mi-kyung, Forest Protection Association President Jeong Hyeong-bae, and Others Recognized for Contributions to Environmental Safety Practices

With the threat of large-scale wildfires and various disasters caused by climate change becoming a part of daily life, a venue for discussion was established to respond to environmental protection and disaster safety in an integrated manner.

The 11th Environmental Safety Forum and Action Awards, held on the 24th at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, concluded with great success.

This forum was hosted by Environmental Safety Focus and organized by Indifocus, proceeding under the main theme of “The Environmental Impact of Wildfires and the Survival Chain of Fire Disasters.”

A large number of experts and community leaders attended the event to analyze the multifaceted impact of wildfires on ecosystems and human society, and to share practical response strategies.

This forum held particular significance in that it defined wildfires not merely as fire accidents, but as complex environmental disasters linked to air quality deterioration, biodiversity loss, and threats to urban safety.

Experts warned that the massive release of carbon and fine dust during wildfires forms a vicious cycle that accelerates climate change.

Furthermore, the necessity of establishing a "survival loop" to protect human lives during disasters and creating a dense, community-centered response system was emphasized.

Attendees agreed that environmental protection and disaster response are no longer separate domains but tasks requiring an integrated approach, confirming the importance of cooperation for building a sustainable and safe society.

At the "Environmental Safety Practice Awards" ceremony held following the forum, individuals who contributed to environmental protection and disaster response in the field were highlighted.

Kim Mi-kyung, Chairperson of the Construction and Transportation Committee of the Goyang City Council, received the Legislative Grand Prize for Environmental Safety Practice, while Vice President Park Su-jin received the Gyeonggi Provincial Governor's Commendation. Jeong Hyeong-bae, Chairman of the Forest Protection Association of the Gyeonggi Region, received the Environmental Safety Practice Award in recognition of his contributions to forest protection and environmental activism.

At the event, Kim Pil-rye, President of the Gyeonggi Region of the Korea Forest Love Association, stated, “Environmental and disaster safety are the most important assets and tasks to hand down to future generations,” emphasizing that the efforts of activists practicing in the field must spread throughout society.

Key figures, including Senior Vice President Hong Du-pyo and Vice President Jo Su-yeon, also attended and pledged continued cooperation to establish an environmental safety net.

The organizers stated, “We hope this forum serves as an opportunity to recognize environmental issues not merely as matters of nature conservation, but as issues of human survival,” adding, “We will continue to provide a platform for public discourse to discuss policy alternatives and practical measures.”

This event was held under the sponsorship of various organizations, including the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, the K-Fire Safety Sharing Center, and the National Disaster Safety Agency, and is being praised for presenting a new safety paradigm to respond to the era of climate crisis.
