민주당 부산시당 “한동훈 후보, 팬덤 뒤 숨지 말고 쉼터 논란 직접 해...

[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 더불어민주당 부산광역시당이 부산 북구갑 보궐선거 과정에서 불거진 무소속 한동훈 후보 지지 ‘자원봉사자 쉼터’ 논란과 관련해 “사실상의 비공식 선거조직 운영 의혹”이라며 선관위의 신속한 조사를 촉구했다.

민주당 부산시당은 25일 성명을 내고 “선관위가 이미 유사 사례에 대해 공직선거법 위반 소지를 경고했음에도 비슷한 형태의 공간이 또 운영된 것은 결코 가볍게 볼 문제가 아니다”고 밝혔다.

이어 “통일된 복장과 기호를 착용한 지지자들이 해당 장소를 드나들며 활동한 것은 사실상 선거운동 거점으로 활용됐다는 의심을 키우고 있다”고 주장했다.

민주당은 “커피값을 각자 냈다거나 와이파이가 없었다는 해명은 본질과 무관하다”며 “핵심은 해당 공간이 특정 후보를 위한 비공식 선거조직 역할을 했는지 여부”라고 지적했다.

또 “한 후보는 지금까지 ‘지지자들의 자발적 참여’라는 입장만 반복하고 있다”며 “반복되는 위법 논란에 대해 후보 본인이 책임 있는 태도로 직접 입장을 밝혀야 한다”고 비판했다.

민주당은 “팬덤과 자발성을 내세운 비공식 선거조직이 용인된다면 선거 문화가 편법과 음성 조직 경쟁으로 변질될 우려가 크다”며 “선관위는 철저하고 신속한 조사를 통해 실체를 명확히 밝혀야 한다”고 촉구했다.

Busan Democratic Party Urges Candidate Han Dong-hoon to Address ‘Volunteer Shelter’ Controversy Directly

The Busan chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea called for a swift investigation by the election commission over allegations that an alleged “volunteer shelter” supporting independent candidate Han Dong-hoon in the Buk-gu Gap by-election functioned as an unofficial campaign office.

In a statement released on May 25, the Busan Democratic Party said the controversy “cannot be dismissed as a simple incident,” noting that the National Election Commission had already warned that similar facilities could violate the Public Official Election Act.

The party argued that groups of supporters wearing matching outfits and symbols frequently using the space raised strong suspicions that the location served as a base for campaign activities.

It added that explanations such as supporters buying their own coffee or the absence of Wi-Fi were “irrelevant to the core issue,” stressing that the key question is whether the space operated as an unofficial campaign organization for a specific candidate.

The Democratic Party also criticized Han for relying on the explanation that supporters acted voluntarily, saying “a candidate seeking public office must take responsibility for repeated allegations surrounding activities carried out in his name.”

The party warned that allowing unofficial campaign groups under the banner of fandom politics and voluntary participation could damage election culture and lead to unfair competition through informal organizations. It urged election authorities to conduct a thorough and prompt investigation to clarify the facts.
