Fraudulent activities impersonating officials from political parties and election campaign committees are on the rise amid the election season, calling for special attention from small business owners and self-employed individuals.

The Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) Busan Metropolitan City Chapter announced that a fraud case recently occurred where an individual using the alias 'Supervisor Lee' impersonated a party official to order 150,000 business cards for Busan mayoral candidate Jeon Jae-soo from a design firm, only to disappear. The firm completed the printing of all 150,000 business cards—worth approximately 2.17 million won—but was left with the entire financial burden after the buyer failed to show up.

The victim visited the DPK Busan Chapter on May 19 to report the damages, and the Busan Chapter immediately shared the details with the Intelligence Division of the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency. The city chapter plans to take strong legal action, including filing a formal complaint in the near future. Investigations revealed that the impersonator used at least three different contact numbers alternately during the commission of the crime.

This is not the first time that crimes impersonating party officials have targeted election periods. In June last year, another "no-show" fraud case occurred in Busan, where a perpetrator impersonated a DPK official, forged the party leader's approval signature to reserve a pension, and failed to show up, leading to a police complaint. In the neighboring South Gyeongsang Province, similar fraud cases have recently been detected where individuals impersonated DPK officials to approach human resource agencies and self-employed individuals, offering to handle election promotional material deliveries or campaign vehicle contracts at low prices.

The DPK Busan Chapter emphasized that it will respond with a zero-tolerance policy and take strict legal measures against all acts that cause financial and material damage to self-employed individuals by exploiting the hectic election atmosphere to impersonate political parties and campaign committees.
