29일 시에 따르면 지역 내 반려동물 가구는 약 6만6천 가구로 추정되지만, 실제 등록 가구는 약 3만3천 가구에 그쳐 절반 수준에 머물고 있다.

이에 따라 유실·유기동물 예방과 관리 사각지대 해소를 위한 등록 확대 필요성이 커지고 있다.

동물등록제는 반려견 소유자를 공식적으로 확인할 수 있는 제도로, 반려동물 분실 시 신속한 반환이 가능한 가장 효과적인 장치로 꼽힌다.

특히 봄철 야외활동 증가로 유실 위험이 높아지는 시기에는 사전 등록의 중요성이 더욱 강조된다.

아울러 김해시가 운영 중인 반려동물 테마공원 김해댕댕파크는 등록이 완료된 반려견만 입장이 가능하며, 각종 반려동물 지원사업 역시 등록된 경우에 한해 혜택이 제공돼 등록 여부가 실질적인 이용 조건으로 작용하고 있다.

시는 등록 참여 확대를 위해 ▲공원·산책로 중심 현장 캠페인 ▲공식 SNS·홈페이지 콘텐츠 홍보 ▲시 행사 연계 홍보부스 운영 등 다양한 방식의 홍보를 추진할 계획이다.

동물등록은 인근 동물병원에서 가능하며, 등록 정보 변경은 국가동물보호관리시스템 또는 행정복지센터 방문을 통해 처리할 수 있다.

김해시 관계자는 “동물등록은 반려동물의 안전과 책임 있는 반려문화 정착을 위한 기본”이라며 “시민 참여를 높이기 위한 홍보를 지속적으로 확대해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
