Gimhae City Launches Duplication Project for Water Supply and Transmission Pipelines

180.2 Billion Won Invested, Starting with Water Supply Pipelines, Gradual Duplication to be Pursued

Gimhae City has officially launched the duplication project for its water supply and transmission pipelines to ensure a stable, long-term supply of tap water.

This is a large-scale infrastructure project to be implemented in stages until 2045, with a total investment of 180.2 billion won.

The purpose of this project is to establish an uninterrupted water supply system, even in emergency situations, by duplicating (duplicate) the water supply pipelines connecting the Samgye and Myeongdong Water Purification Plants, as well as the transmission pipelines leading to major water reservoirs.

First, 109 billion won will be invested to install an additional 13.7 km of water pipes with a diameter of 1,100 to 1,200 mm in the water supply pipeline section.

This will enable parallel operation with existing pipelines, laying the foundation for supplying raw water without interruption even in the event of accidents or maintenance work. Design work for this section is scheduled to begin in May. Subsequently, the city plans to sequentially duplicate the water transmission pipelines extending from the two water purification plants to regional reservoirs, connecting the entire system into a single network.

Once the network is completed, stability will be significantly enhanced, as tap water can be rerouted through other pipelines even if a specific pipeline fails.

A Gimhae City official stated, "Water administration is a core foundation directly linked to urban growth, going beyond mere supply," adding, "We will establish a safe and stable water supply system through continuous infrastructure expansion."
