Shinsegae Gwangju Reaps Significant Benefits from ‘Musinsa Standard’… Solidifies Position as Honam Region Shopping Mecca

Sales Target Exceeded by Double Within One Month of Opening - New Building (Place Spot) Sales Surge by 28.5%, Customer Count by 34%… Out-of-town shoppers Flock from Jeonbuk Region - 'Spillover Effect' to Surrounding Stores and Main Building F&B, Successfully Targeting the Tastes of the 2030 Generation

(Gwangju = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Shinsegae Gwangju is reaping significant benefits in attracting customers to the Honam metropolitan commercial district, spearheaded by ‘Musinsa Standard,’ which was introduced for the first time in the region. By successively attracting differentiated brands (MD) that were previously difficult to find in the area, the company appears to be solidifying its position as the undisputed representative one-stop shopping destination in the Honam region. According to Shinsegae Gwangju, Musinsa Standard, which opened in the new building’s ‘Place Spot’ on April 16, has successfully settled in, achieving more than double (over 100%) the projected sales since its opening.

In the month following the opening of Musinsa Standard, Place Spot’s total sales increased by 28.5% compared to the same period last year, and the number of visitors also rose by 34%, proving its strong ability to attract customers.

Customer influx is expanding beyond the Gwangju region to the entire Honam area. While customers from Nam-gu and Seo-gu accounted for a large proportion within Gwangju, a large number of customers from outlying regions, such as Jeonnam (Naju, Mokpo, Suncheon, and Yeosu) and Jeonbuk (Gunsan and Jeonju), have flocked to the store.

Consequently, customer sales across the entire Honam metropolitan commercial district increased by 19%. In particular, customer sales from the Jeonbuk region recorded a growth rate of over 14%, suggesting that the store is absorbing shopping demand not only from Gwangju and Jeonnam but also from the Jeonbuk area. The success of Musinsa Standard is leading to a ripple effect that spreads to other stores within the department store. Even when analyzing sales at Place Spot alone, excluding Musinsa Standard, sales grew by 10.4% year-on-year, indicating that surrounding tenants have enjoyed a significant trickle-down effect.

Furthermore, as customers visiting the New Wing extended their visit to the Main Wing, it created a synergy effect that boosted sales at the Main Wing's F&B (Food & Beverage) outlets by 22%.

The younger demographic was at the heart of this success. In April, customers in their 20s accounted for 42% of total customers, while those in their 30s accounted for 10%, with the younger demographic driving sales growth.

This is attributed to the provision of unique shopping experiences through the continuous attraction of brands making their debut in the Honam region, including Musinsa Standard, the global tech accessory brand Casetify, and luxury jewelry brands such as Fred and Tiffany. In particular, news of the opening of offline stores for online-based brands Musinsa Standard and Casetify has spread through the MZ generation's social media, sparking a craze for taking photos of the stores and waiting lines, and is steadily attracting new customers.

Lee Dong-hoon, CEO of Gwangju Shinsegae, stated, "We have confirmed the strong demand from customers in the Honam region through Musinsa Standard's achievement of exceeding projected sales by 100%," adding, "Gwangju Shinsegae will continue to do its best to provide customers with new shopping experiences by attracting differentiated merchandise."
