Gwangju Related Agencies Take to the Streets to ‘Overcome Resource Security Crisis’… Launch Joint Energy Saving Campaign
Five Public Institutions Including Gwangju Urban Development Corporation Participate… Appealing for Citizen Participation in the U-Square Area Promoting the Five-Day Car Restriction System and Daily Energy Saving Tips
(Gwangju = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Major public institutions in the Gwangju region have gathered to overcome the increasingly severe resource security crisis and spread a culture of carbon neutrality.
The Gwangju Urban Development Corporation announced that it recently conducted a joint ‘Energy Saving Promotional Street Campaign’ with related agencies at the plaza in front of the Gwangju General Bus Terminal (U-Square).
This campaign was organized to raise awareness of the severity of the situation following the recent elevation of the resource security crisis alert level, and to encourage voluntary participation in energy saving within the local community. The participating organizations included the Gwangju Metropolitan City Corporation, Seo-gu District Office, the Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of the Korea Energy Agency, the Gwangju-Jeonnam Headquarters of the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), and KEPCO KDN.
These five organizations combined their respective capabilities to enhance promotional synergy. Moving beyond simple chanting of slogans, they focused on communicating directly with citizens and delivering practical action plans.
At the event held in the bustling U-Square area, participants including employees of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Corporation actively encouraged citizens to participate in the five-day vehicle restriction system. They also appealed for citizen participation by distributing brochures containing "Guidelines for Daily Energy Saving" that can be immediately implemented at home and at work.
An official from the Gwangju Metropolitan City Corporation stated, "Energy saving is the most certain and economical way to achieve carbon neutrality," adding, "We will continue to cooperate closely with relevant organizations to implement proactive administrative measures to address the climate crisis and do our utmost to build a green city of Gwangju together with its citizens." Meanwhile, in conjunction with Climate Change Week, Gwangju City Corporation is continuing its diverse ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management initiatives in addition to its energy conservation campaign.
The Corporation is being recognized for taking the lead in responding to the climate crisis through citizen-participatory programs, such as the ‘Ssudam’ (Trash Collection) environmental cleanup activity, the lights-out event at the Bitgoeul Customer Center, and the waste home appliance recycling campaign.
