Gyeongnam TP Partners with 34 Marine and Fisheries Startups
Official Agreement Signing and Capacity-Building Training for '2026 Marine and Fisheries Startup Investment Support Project'
Gyeongsangnam-do and the Gyeongnam Technopark have launched a full-scale drive to foster innovative startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to find a breakthrough for the local marine and fisheries industry, which is currently facing a crisis.
Gyeongnam TP announced that on the 15th, it signed business implementation agreements with the 34 companies finally selected for the ‘2026 Marine and Fisheries Startup Investment Support Project’ at its headquarters, officially kicking off the nurturing of young entrepreneurs and on-site companies. The event included the signing ceremony, practical training for transparent and efficient project implementation, and networking sessions among participating companies.
Despite abundant fishing grounds and infrastructure, Gyeongnam’s marine and fisheries sector has long been criticized for struggling to overcome its small-scale nature due to a lack of funding and limitations in technological advancement. This project is the first dedicated support program for the marine and fisheries sector attempted in Gyeongnam to resolve these chronic issues. A company official attending the signing ceremony expressed anticipation, stating, “As this is the first specialized marine and fisheries project attempted in Gyeongnam, there was intense interest from the industry even before the selection process began.” He added, “Through today’s training on budget execution and settlement, we have clearly established the direction of the project, and the upcoming full-cycle support program seems likely to serve as a major turning point for the company’s scale-up.”
Kim Jeong-hwan, President of Gyeongnam Technopark, remarked, “This event is deeply meaningful as it marks the starting point for prospective entrepreneurs and selected companies to jointly shape the future of Gyeongnam’s marine and fisheries industry.” He added, “We will spare no practical support to ensure these companies acquire global competitiveness and achieve sustainable growth.”
Meanwhile, Gyeongnam Technopark plans to solidify the cooperation framework among industry, academia, research institutes, and government through regular training and networking, and to foster Gyeongnam as an innovation hub for marine and fisheries startups and investment in Korea.
