SK hynix has begun strengthening its future competitiveness by recruiting a large number of talented individuals from companies such as Samsung Electronics, Intel, and LG Electronics. It appears to be accelerating its efforts to enhance its competitiveness in the AI memory era by strategically placing external experts covering technology, strategy, and macroeconomic analysis.
According to its business report on March 20, SK hynix has recruited Oh Bo-young, a former Samsung Electronics executive, as a Vice President in charge of Future Strategy. Vice President Oh, born in 1974, is a female executive who moved to SK hynix from Samsung Electronics.
The Future Strategy organization is responsible for establishing and supporting the company’s long-term growth direction. Its core mission is to analyze market conditions, industry trends, and the competitive landscape, reflecting these insights into the company’s growth strategy to drive profitability. The ability to collaborate with various departments to gather a wide range of information and proactively respond to market changes is crucial.
Talent from Intel has also newly joined the company. Vice Presidents Park Ji-yong and Park Ju-dong were appointed as executives at SK hynix after building their careers at Intel. Vice President Park Ji-yong has been appointed to lead P&T (Package & Test), while Vice President Park Ju-dong will head the Future Technology Research Institute.
P&T is the organization that oversees the entire semiconductor back-end process. In particular, as AI memory technology advances, the importance of packaging is growing. This organization plays a key role in analyzing product quality based on test data, leading process improvements, and setting the standards for products to be released to the market.
The Future Technology Research Institute is the organization responsible for core R&D, and Vice President Park Ju-dong is expected to oversee research on next-generation AI memory advanced technologies, leveraging his design capabilities and experience from Intel.
Additionally, SK hynix established the Macro Research Center during its year-end reorganization last year and appointed Park Seok-joong, formerly of Shinhan Investment & Securities, as its head.
Vice President Park, a graduate of the Department of World Economy at Fudan University in China, is regarded as a ‘China expert’. At the time of the reorganization, SK hynix explained that the Macro Research Center would analyze the global business environment and geopolitical issues, and propose strategies centered on AI and semiconductors. The company’s policy is to strengthen its capabilities from macroeconomic analysis to industry and corporate analysis by recruiting external experts. Vice President Park has joined as the right person for the role.
In addition, Vice President Seo Song-moon from Applied Materials was recruited as the head of the Foundational Technology Center, and Vice President Kim Ho-sik from LG Electronics was brought in as an executive reporting directly to the CEO. This is interpreted as a move to strengthen organizational competitiveness by actively absorbing talent from competitors and global companies.
