South Korean retail giant Shinsegae Group is set to expand its partnership with U.S. AI firm Reflection AI Inc. beyond their data center project to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) across core retail operations, the conglomerate said Friday.
The two sides plan to apply AI across six retail areas: product sourcing, ordering, pricing, logistics, inventory management and customer management.
The initiative spans the full retail value chain and aims to improve productivity and efficiency by enabling the timely supply of in-demand products at optimal prices.
Shinsegae Group will initially focus on implementing AI innovation through Emart Inc., which has the largest product assortment and widest customer reach.
Reflection AI Chief Executive Officer Misha Laskin, along with other executives, is expected to visit Korea later this month to meet Emart and hold workshops with Shinsegae Group management.
Shinsegae Group had previously pursued AI adoption through partnerships with companies including OpenAI Inc., the developer of ChatGPT, but has decided to consolidate its collaboration with Reflection AI in order to focus its strategy.
In March, the two companies signed a strategic agreement to build a 250-megawatt AI data center in Korea and to jointly develop an AI-based retail model.
“We plan to position AI as a core pillar of our future strategy while advancing innovation in existing businesses to support sustainable growth and improve customer satisfaction,” said a Shinsegae official.
