Media strategist Kwon Ho-jin was named as a judge at the 65th Monte-Carlo Television Festival, or the Festival de Télévision de Monte-Carlo, the organizing committee said Thursday.
With the news, Kwon has become the first person from Asia to serve on a jury of all four major international television festivals. The four international television festivals refer to the International Emmy Awards, Series Mania, Banff World Media Festival and Festival de Télévision de Monte-Carlo.
“It is deeply meaningful that Korean content has moved past the stage of being a subject of evaluation in the international market to a position where we are participating in the discussion and judgment of world-class television storytelling,” Kwon said.
Kwon, a board member of the Korean Association for Broadcasting Studies, has been working at the SBS Media Group for over three decades.

“I will bring my firsthand experience of the first generation Hallyu and the perspective of a global media content specialist to bear in carefully evaluating outstanding works from around the world,” he said.
Founded in 1961, the Monte-Carlo Television Festival is one of the longest-running international television competitions in the world. This year's festival will take place from June 12 to 16 in Monaco.
The 65th Monte-Carlo Television Festival will open with an international premiere of the third season of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” (2023-), with actors Kurt Russell and Dame Kristin Scott Thomas named recipients of the Crystal Nymph Award.
