Kraken Switches to Chainlink After Major Crypto Bridge Exploit

Crypto exchange Kraken announced it will replace LayerZero with Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol for transfers involving its wrapped digital assets, following growing concerns over cross-chain security after a major exploit earlier this year.

The decision comes after liquid restaking platform Kelp suffered a US$292 million bridge attack in April, marking the largest exploit of its kind in 2026. The breach involved a LayerZero-powered bridge and resulted in the loss of more than 116,000 restaked ether tokens. LayerZero later acknowledged an error involving the verifier network configuration used to secure high-value assets.

Kraken said Chainlink’s CCIP will become the exclusive cross-chain service for assets including kBTC, the exchange’s wrapped bitcoin token. The migration will initially cover several blockchain networks, including Ethereum, Ink, Unichain and Optimism, with additional integrations planned later.

Several other crypto platforms, including Kelp, Solv and Re, have also transitioned to Chainlink’s infrastructure in recent months. Coinbase selected Chainlink CCIP last year as the sole bridge for billions of dollars in wrapped assets.
