The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (hereinafter referred to as KOTRA, President Kang Kyung-sung) announced on May 11 that it has signed a Government-to-Government (G2G) export contract with the Estonian Centre for Defence Investment (ECDI), an agency under the Estonian Ministry of Defence, for the additional supply of the ‘Chunmoo Multiple Launch Rocket System’.
Through this contract, Hanwha Aerospace is scheduled to supply three Chunmoo launchers and related ancillary equipment to Estonia by the end of 2027.
Previously, in December of last year, KOTRA had signed a Framework Arrangement with Estonia for the long-term supply of the Chunmoo system over the next 10 years, thereby establishing a foundation for sustainable, medium- to long-term exports. Concurrently, it signed the first G2G export contract, valued at approximately EUR 300 million (approximately 500 billion won), for the supply of six Chunmoo launchers and three types of missiles. This additional order is a follow-up achievement secured just five months after the first contract was signed.
Estonia has been successfully operating South Korean-made K9 Self-Propelled Howitzers since their introduction in 2020, and it highly values the excellence and durability of our weapon systems, whose performance has been proven in the harsh climate of Northern Europe, a region adjacent to the polar circle.
Hanno Pevkur, the Estonian Minister of Defence, stated prior to the contract signing, “This additional acquisition of multiple launch rocket systems will be an opportunity to elevate Estonia’s defense capabilities to the next level,” and “we will continue to expand our defense cooperation with our partners from the Republic of Korea.”
KOTRA President Kang Kyung-sung said, “The fact that an additional contract was secured in such a short period is the result not only of the outstanding performance of our weapon systems but also of the deep trust the Estonian government has in Korean defense.”
