Kolmar Korea Unveils Targeted Anti-Aging Material

New antioxidant TOT releases Vitamin E only when exposed to hydrogen peroxide on April 21

Kolmar Korea announced on May 21 that it has developed a new antioxidant material called “TOT (Tocopherol-Oxalate-Tocopherol)” in collaboration with Professor Lee Dong-won’s research team from the Department of Polymer Nano Engineering at Jeonbuk National University. The research achievement has been recognized for its technological originality and innovation, and was selected as the cover paper for the April 2026 issue of the SCI-level international academic journal “Molecules.”

The newly developed TOT features a structure in which two Vitamin E (tocopherol) molecules are linked by a special bonding agent called peroxalate. The key mechanism is a “targeted elimination” approach in which, upon encountering hydrogen peroxide — a substance that triggers aging within the skin — the bond breaks and releases Vitamin E. This is the direct application of the drug delivery principle used in pharmaceuticals, which activates only at the required site, to a cosmetic ingredient.

To maximize efficacy delivery, Kolmar Korea employed its proprietary “DDS Smart Liposome” technology. This method encapsulates TOT in microscopic capsules to enable stable delivery deep into the dermis layer of the skin. Experimental results showed that TOT reduced the concentration of hydrogen peroxide by more than 40% within 30 minutes of exposure, and demonstrated outstanding efficacy in suppressing cell damage at only one-tenth the dosage compared to conventional Vitamin E.

Kolmar Korea plans to build a premium anti-aging cosmetics line incorporating this technology, accelerating its push into the global market.

A Kolmar Korea representative said, “This new material is the culmination of research and development efforts aimed at addressing the root causes of aging by converging pharmaceutical and cosmetic technologies,” adding, “We plan to continue R&D through convergence with pharmaceutical technologies and lead the targeted anti-aging cosmetics market going forward.”
