A large-scale academic event to share future strategies and the latest trends in family medicine will be held next month.
The Korean Academy of Family Medicine announced that it will host “FM EXPO 26” on June 21 at the Catholic University Medical Campus and Seoul St. Mary's Hospital.
FM EXPO 26 combines the abbreviation “FM” for Family Medicine with “EXPO,” symbolizing an international exhibition. The event is designed to showcase the diverse capabilities and expertise that family medicine in Korea has accumulated over the years.

Former Catholic University College of Medicine professor Choi Hwan-seok, a former president of the academy, and Professor Kim Sun-mi of Korea University College of Medicine, who serves as the academy's director of residency training, will co-chair the organizing committee.
“FM EXPO 26 differs from conventional academic conferences,” Choi said. “It has been designed as an open event not only for academy members, including family medicine specialists and residents, but also for interns at training hospitals, medical students, healthcare professionals, and the general public.”
He added, “We hope this event will enhance pride among family medicine physicians while also presenting the vision and potential of family medicine to interns and medical students. We also aim to raise public awareness of family medicine and improve understanding of and trust in family physicians who serve as primary care doctors in local communities.”
Kim noted that although Korea’s family medicine field possesses globally competitive primary care capabilities, public recognition of its role and value within the country remains insufficient.
“We hope this event will further elevate the standing of Korean family medicine,” she said.
The event will feature several educational programs organized by the academy, including the obesity-focused “Obesity Care Pro,” the vaccination course “Vaccine Prime Course,” and the hospice medicine program “Hospice Care Pro.” Additional training sessions will cover a wide range of specialties, including aesthetic dermatology, mental health, chronic pain, aerospace medicine, travel medicine, cancer survivorship care, hospital medicine, geriatric medicine, and integrative medicine.
Lectures addressing the core clinical domains of family medicine -- such as family-centered patient care and community care, including home visits -- are also planned. Hong Seung-kwon, president of the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, will discuss the primary care physician system from the perspective of family medicine, while Dr. Choi Hyo-yoon, who practices in Canada, will introduce overseas career opportunities and experiences for family physicians. Han Min-kyu, director at Kakao Healthcare, will highlight the role of family medicine specialists in the era of digital healthcare.
Programs aimed at strengthening the expertise of family medicine specialists in health screening medicine will also be offered, including hands-on training in endoscopy and ultrasonography, as well as lectures on the role of family physicians in health screening centers.
Special lectures by leading experts in family medicine are also scheduled. Dr. Oh Han-jin of ID Hospital will speak on anti-aging medicine, while Ahn Kang, director of Seoul Ahnkang Hospital, will discuss pain medicine. Professor Myung Seung-kwon of the National Cancer Center will lecture on evidence-based medicine. Professor Oh Byeong-sang of the University of Sydney will deliver a special lecture on tai chi and qi therapy in the field of integrative medicine.
In addition, the expo will include workshops and hands-on sessions for young physicians covering academic paper writing, residency evaluations, and CPX assessment item development.
Health lectures for the general public will also be available, addressing topics such as anti-aging, obesity, vaccination, bone health, and cancer survivorship. Members of the public can participate through advance registration.
Kim Churl-min, president of the academy and a physician at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, said, “We hope this event will grow beyond a one-time gathering into a representative platform that widely promotes the value and role of family medicine to society. We also hope it will serve as an important starting point for family medicine to further advance academically and clinically as the foundation of primary care while demonstrating leadership across diverse medical and healthcare fields.”
The academy is currently accepting advance registrations through its official website.
